Violence

The domain of violence provides a set of indicators that measures the violence against women using proxy variables. The domain of violence, in contrast to the other domains does not measure differences between women and men; rather, it examines women's experiences of violence. The main objective is to eliminate violence against women, not to reduce gaps. The violence domain consists of the following indicators: 

(1) intentional homicides (per 100,000 female) (female are estimates of unlawful female homicides purposely inflicted as a result of domestic disputes, interpersonal violence, violent conflicts over land resources, intergang violence over turf or control, and predatory violence and killing by armed groups);

(2) age of first marriage;

(3) adolescent birth rate per 1,000 girls aged 15-19; and

(4) unintended pregnancy rate per 1,000 women aged 15-49. The score for violence domain is not included in the calculation of the index score.
