Time
2024
The time domain measure gender equality in the allocation of time spent doing care and domestic work. This domain consists of only one sub-domain – care activities, which is measured by the proportion of time spent on unpaid care work for the female and male populations (as a percentage of 24-hour day). Domestic and care work includes food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning and upkeep of a dwelling, laundry, ironing, gardening, caring for pets, shopping, installation, servicing and repair of personal and household goods, child care, and care of the sick, elderly or disabled household members, among others. The gender equality index of the time domain is measured on a scale between 0 and 100 points, where 100 is the maximum and indicates the highest level of gender equality in the labour market.
