The health domain measures gender equality in three aspects (sub-domains): (1) health status, (2) healthy behaviour, and (3) access to health services. The sub-domain of health status looks at the difference in life expectancy at birth of women and men together with healthy life years at birth (HALE). HALE measures the number of remaining years that a person of a specific age is expected to live without any severe or moderate health problems. The sub-domain of healthy behaviour combines two indicators: the percentage of women and men who don’t smoke, and the percentage of women and men who are not overweight (overweight is defined by WHO the following way: a BMI greater than or equal to 25). The sub-domain of access to health services is captured by the probability of survival at age 5, which is measured by subtracting the mortality rate under 5 from 100. The gender equality index of the health domain is measured on a scale between 0 and 100 points, where 100 is the maximum and indicates the highest level of gender equality in the labour market.
